AIIP Pre-Conference Workshops

I offer two half-day workshops in conjunction with the annual conference of the Association of Independent Information Professionals. The conference will be held on March 25, 2009 at the Albuquerque Marriott in Albuquerque, NM.

9:00am-12:30pm
Speaking for Fun and (More Importantly) Profit: How to Build Your Business and Your Bottom Line Through Public Speaking

Very few people started their information business because they love marketing, but we all have to find ways to effectively reach large numbers of prospective clients and generate word of mouth advertising. Public speaking is one of the most powerful ways to get your name out in front of prospects, establish your expertise, and create a new revenue stream.

This half-day workshop will give you the tools you need to build a portfolio of presentation topics, identify the best audiences to target, land speaking engagements that both generate revenue and build your client base, and leverage your speaking opportunities.

At the end of this half-day workshop, you will:

  • Create three presentation topics to pitch to prospective audiences
  • Focus your marketing efforts on the most-likely targets
  • Prepare a fabulous – not the typical – PowerPoint presentation
  • Use techniques to effectively follow up on and leverage your presentation contacts
  • Command a speaking fee that adequately compensates you

1:00-5:00pm
Making Information Actionable: Transforming Your Deliverables for Added Value

This lively half-day workshop will look at that part of research which takes place after you finish your searching. What are the most cost-effective and efficient ways to add value to your research results? How can you create deliverables that make it clear to your clients the value you add?

This workshop will provide you with the tools, resources and techniques to enable you to clearly demonstrate the additional value that you bring to your clients, and thereby increase your billables. This workshop will include lecture, small group activities, individual worksheets and interactive discussions.

At the end of this half-day workshop, you'll know how to:

  • Employ the "Value-Adding" mind-set – examining every aspect of your deliverables and identifying how your clients find and use information
  • Use specific post-processing tools and techniques with every client project
  • Employ techniques for getting higher-end information from the online services – data mining, specialized output, and data visualization tools from the key online vendors
  • Clearly demonstrate your value to clients through high-impact deliverables – with every project

The cost for each workshop is $175, or $250 for both workshops.

To register for either workshop, or for more information, please call Mary Ellen at 303.772.7095, or send her this registration form. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, April 16.
